So, it really doesn't matter if you are a Hellraiser fan or not; you won't like this one. Even though the esteemed Clive Barker said that he prefers Hellseeker (which is, by the way, the 6th movie of the Hellraiser series) to Hellraiser 2, I will have to disagree. This movie is an odd combination of an interesting plot intermixed with bad acting; severe boredom is the product of this combination.

The movie begins with the protagonist of the film Trevor Gooden (Dean Winters) placed in a car alongside his wife Kristy (Ashley Lawrence). Surprisingly enough something happens and Trevor loses control of the vehicle, therefore running it off a cliff into the river alongside the road. The wife dies. Trevor finds himself in the hospital not knowing how he got there - what a cliche. He's got memory blanks, gets flashes of past incidents that he can't recall in full form, he has hallucinations of somesort that usually include intense sex scenes and is being followed by a faceless figure that he first saw lingering close to his flat. The movie focuses on Trevor's existence after the accident, constantly throwing at the viewer pieces of a puzzle that is meant to baffle in great depth. However, I'm sure this movie looked alot better on paper than it did when they actually shot it.

The horror scenes are quite good, and I would have to say that they live up to the previous explicit scenes of the Hellraiser series. Yet Bota fails to keep the viewer glued to his seat. Infact, he manages the exact oposite; even though I forced myself to watch this parody to the end, I got up 3-4 times using any kind of excuse so that these 2 hours would not be a complete waste of time.

Take my advice. Use the money you were going to spend on renting this for something a bit more constructive.
