Forseti is the solo project of Adreas Ritter, a remarkable mucisian and a true "romanticist". He writes the music - a peaceful neofolk in the case of "Jenzig" and the lyrics in german - that reflect his adoration of the natural world. He also sings. Ritter's viewpoint of the music is that it has to be left as pure as possible, thus, only natural/acoustic instruments are used to render his compositions.
This is a re-release of "Jenzig", the first album from Forseti. It originally came out in 2000 from Eis & Licht records as a 550 copies limited edition 10'' LP and quickly sold out. "Jenzig" is a short length masterpiece. With running time only 22.58 minutes in the original version and 27.55 in this re-release (includes an extra track - "Jenzig II").
The cd opens with "Gesang der junglinge". A fine opening I would say : captivating , dynamic and catchy with some alterations in the rhythm.
The text is from Ludwig Uhland, german poet of the 19th century.
"Am abend" is the second track. Romantic and melancholic,
in a much slower pace than the introductory song, with beautiful female vocals accompanying Andreas Ritter's voice. The text of "Am abend" is contributed by Uwe Nolte of Orplid. The next track is called "Heilige welt",one of the best in the album with an enchanting flute part. Seems bright, dynamic and vivid.
A sense of loss and mourning is evident with "Abschied",
an 1.40 minute track,in a more heavy and severe mood. Orchestration with intense percussions."Wolfzeit" is an other slow and melancholic composition with female vocals accompaniment.
I think that the next track "Erlkonig" (text taken from Goethe's "Der Erlkoning") is rather weak. "Jenzig" track is fairly good , though I much more prefer its "Jenzig II" version - has a fine orchestration, perhaps one of the finest in the disc.
"Jenzig" is a great debut from this neofolk project comprising of pleasant and plain melodies.I was particularly enthousiastic with 3 first tracks of "Jenzig". I believe this album is a must for anyone who is already familiar the genre.
P.S. The cd rerelease of "Jenzig" comes in excellent packaging. Special attention has been given to the booklet which contains all the lyrics, plus wonderful photography.
