After the single "Angina" and the live already introduced title-track I was extremely anxious for this album and "Beyond The Veil" is the coronation of this genre, another masterpiece!
The opener and title-track alone alone doesn't leave anything to desire: alternating heavy Gothic Metal and emotional passages, underlined by Vibeke's divine vocals, the use of a violin, clean, deep male vocals, acoustic guitars - this song has everything a classic needs to have!
Contrary to many Gothic Metal-bands of today that get softer and try out electronica and other frippery, TRISTANIA have grown a good bit heavier on their second full album, something that suits the Norwegians perfectly, because the orchestral passages, in which Vibeke sometimes is accompanied by a choir, win even more atmospheric depth, just like in "Aphelion" or "Opus Relinque".
The already known "Angina" bristles with intensity and "Heretique" is, I guess, the heaviest TRISTANIA-track ever, with partly fast double-bass and harsh vocals on the one side and calmer passages with Gregorian sounding chants.
Get this jewel of metallic sound-art, because this masterpiece has no fillers, no good songs, but extra class from the first to the last second!
