Their 2001 debut "Destination Zero" became an instant classic and its 2005 follow-up "The Great Silence" secured their name as one of the most original Traditional Gothic Rock acts today. This 3rd album by Elusive, "Locked Doors, Drinks and Funerals" is definitely the missing link between these earlier masterpieces.
As far as the compositions are concerned, half the songs in "Locked Doors, Drinks and Funerals" bring to mind the catchy goth 'n' roll moments of "Destination Zero" ("Run Away", "Another Day" and the first single "Dream on Sister") and the other half the more atmospheric, bittersweet moments of "The Great Silence" ("In Her Garden" , "A Thin Line", the delicate "Ghost of you" and the nostalgic "The Road (It Goes On)"). And as for the lyrics? A bit more desolate and cold this time, with a recurring theme of needing a reason not to give up.
The classic quality attributed to the music of Elusive is present in this album too and although there are a few excellent moments in the album, one gets the impression that "Locked Doors, Drinks and Funerals" was made to stand between the first two Elusive albums and would otherwise be incomplete. Either way, it is a precious jewel, recommended to all Elusive fans and followers of traditionally fashioned goth 'n' roll.
