Emilie Autumn breathed fresh darkness into the scene with her 2006 album "Opheliac" and her unique blend of sinister pop melodies with baroque-ish and electric violins, passionate vocals and obsessive lyrics.
This 2008 EP "4 o' Clock" follows the same inspired recipe. It introduces two new songs, the title track, which is slow paced and highly atmospheric with an operatic feel and "My Fairweather Friend" a nostalgic themed song with a '60s folk flavour. Also included is the instrumental "Organ Grinder" that originally appeared on the European edition of the Saw III Soundtrack.
3 remixes to "Opheliac" originals follow; "Gothic Lolita (Bad Poetry Mix)" by Sieben, which is the most interesting moment in this EP. Matt Howden's nightmarish violin loops completely transform the track to an anthem to sickness and torment. Also a couple of remixes on "Swallow", by Perfidious Words and Punto Omega and 2 narrations from Emilie's stories & upcoming book complete this release.
Overall it is a decent EP, only slightly inferior to the high standards that "Opheliac" has set for Emilie. Looking forward to the new album then?
